The South Taranaki District Council is seeking an enthusiastic, well organised and motivated individual to fill this exciting position which is offered under the provisions of the Parental Leave and Employment Protection Act 1987.
This a full-time one year fixed-term position (Parental Leave Cover) working 40 hours per week finishing 15 May 2026.

About the Role - The Community Outreach Librarian position provides a strong focus on children's, youth and adult events and programming throughout the district working with staff from across the seven LibraryPlus. The position holder advocates for children and youth; ensuring collections, events and programming remain current and meet their needs in a changing world.
Do you have what it takes? -This is a busy role and if you want plenty of variety, this role has it from
developing and delivering innovative and affordable outreach to targeted sectors of the community, external and internal to the library, coordinating district wide events and activities such as Māori Language Week and National Storytime, including the annual arts programme with the Arts Coordinator, and school holiday programmes. This role will also manage the Community Outreach Cadet and provide mentoring and learning opportunities during their cadetship while also maintaining good communication through leadership and management.
About You - You are a talented team player with a Diploma in Library and Information Studies or higher qualification. You will have an in-depth knowledge of children's and adult literature, a desire to develop and maintain relationships with authors and storytellers and the capacity to juggle multiple tasks and competing deadlines. In addition, you will have an understanding of the Treaty of Waitangi and its implications, knowledge of office or library management, leadership and management experience and are LIANZA Registered, or working towards registration. Excellent communication and relationship management skills is also a requirement of this role.
Applicants for this position must be legally entitled to work in New Zealand, therefore must have NZ residency or hold a valid NZ work visa. In terms of residence class visa applications, priority will be given where the applicant is in New Zealand.
The salary range for this position is between FTE $69,120 and FTE $76,800 and the appointed starting level will be dependent on skills and experience and will be discussed during interviews with shortlisted candidates.
